Get better by building your portfolio
Most of the models that seem to get hired are the ones that continue to do test shots with photographers. Continuing to work with photographers on trade, you get more images for your portfolio while sharpening your modeling skills. It’s also a great way of net working with photographers and anyone connected to them. When working photographers, try to find the ones that fit the style you like. These styles may include studio fashion, portraits, outdoor lifestyle, etc. Find what fits you and match the photographer to the style. Don’t hire a food photographer to do your shots. Make sure the photographer currently shoots the style that fits you. Once, you find that the photographer you like, ask them if they are willing to do test shots on trade. If you can get away without paying, do so. Most photographers will do trade if they like you and you fit their style. It works both ways. Once you find a photographer you like working for, make sure to ask as many questions as you can to understand what they are looking for. They may like you to move a lot while shooting or they may want to pose you according to their vision. Use this new relationship to test your newly acquired skills or just learning to have a good dialogue with them. Don’t use this new relationship as the basis for other photographers. Every photographer works differently. If you can, do test shots with other photographers to get a wide range of experiences. This will help you get more work and sharpen your skills throughout your career. If all these photographers like you, they will spread the word about you to their clients and other agencies. Good luck!
